Una Formulación General de Elementos Finitos para Subdominios

Víctor E. Sonzogni

Abstract

A general formulation for finite element analysis in a distributed computing environment is presented.
Motivations for this work include: parallel computing on MIMD architectures; use of a network of limited storage computers to solve large finite element problems; a general framework to treat some special boundary problems like connection of heterogeneous finite element meshes, contact problems, etc.
Boundary value problems are written for one subdomain, where tllIee types of boundaries (instead of two) are now possible: those with Dirichlet conditions, those with Neumann conditions and those frontiers with other subdomains.
The target architecture for this development is a local area network of small computers. Communication being handled by PVM (Parallel Virtual Machine) or similar software tools.
