Abstract

Evaluation and prediction of the kind of failure. ductile or brittle that governs the engineering material response when they are excitated beyond the elastic limit has a special interest for the structural analysis. A local failure indicator is deduced from the wave propagation theory: the determinant of the acoustic tensor. which allows to find the kind of failure and its critical directions.
In the special case of concrete at early ages, the failure depends on the mechanical properties of concrete, which change during the hydration process.
In this paper we analyze the failure indicators in a thermo-chemical-elastoplastic model, which accounts the dependency of the fundamental mechanical patameters of concrete on the degree of hydration in order to reproduce the deformation field that developes at early ages of the material.
In this sense we study the evolution of localization properties, in particular the critical directions of failure by means of finite element analysis of compression tests.
