Abstract

Time integration of linear dynamics problems is solved efficiently using a widely range of unconditionally stable algorithms. In order to do this, energy conserving and energy decaying schemes are used. This conservation property is typically lost in the nonlinear regime, because the conservation/dissipation properties of this kind of algorithms are, in general, non extensive to the nonlinear regime. The paper deals with several energy conserving algorithms for the dynamic analysis of nonlinear systems. Performance, cost, etc. are compared, considering the problem of a symmetrical top in a gravity field.
