Abstract

The great gain in touthness verified in rubber modified glassy polymers (ABS, HIPS or rubber-modified acrylic polymers), is believed to be due to the multiple deformation micromechanisms induced in the matrix because of the presence of the rubbery phase. The knowledge of the internal stresses distribution results essential for the comprehension of the phenomenon, by permitting the application of the yield hipothesis and the determination of the points where the deformation mechanisms initiate.
In the present paper a simple model that permits to study the interaction between two adyacent and equal particles as a fuctions of the interparticle distance and occlusion grade is proposed.
