Abstract

A method for the finite element modelling of bolted joints is presented. A special finite element "roughness" is used to model the contact between the joint components. This element allows an estimate of the stiffness of the assembly. Including the effect ot the
tightening force and the surface characteristic. In the contact region. A modal analysis is shown emplayng both the stiffness and mass matrices evaluated by means of the model.
