The 16th annual ESAFORM Conference on Material Forming will cover a multitude
of disciplines related to material forming. These materials include metals,
polymers, ceramics and composites. Other materials, for example, biomaterials
are also of conference interest. All traditional and new forming processes are
relevant. It is expected that a variety of techniques including theoretical
analyses, experimental testing and numerical simulations will be used. A good
combination of fundamental approaches and applied science would be
particularly welcomed. This conference will be organised around a series of
mini-symposia.

Aveiro dates back at least to the 10th century when it was known by its first
Latin name of Aviarium, literally, "a gathering place or preserve of birds."
The Moors invaded and then held it until the 11th century, after which it
became popular with Portuguese royalty. In the winter of 1575, a terrible
storm closed the entrance to its port, ending a thriving trade in metals and
tiles. The same storm also created a reef barrier at the Atlantic Ocean.

Aveiro University is a nationally and internationally prestigiously regarded
Portuguese new generation public university, with its headquarters located in
Aveiro since its 1973 creation. It also provides polytechnic education in
three distinct additional poles. Administratively, the teaching and research
activities are distributed by Departments and Autonomous Sections, both with
specialized faculty, that may cooperate in any type of activity.

The University has more than 12,500 students distributed across 58 graduation
courses, over 40 MSc courses and 25 PhD programs. Its main Campus occupies a
majestic area located near the centre of Aveiro, including a near-by
Administration and Accounting Institute of the Aveiro University, and also
having external regional poles in Águeda, Higher Education Technological and
Management School of Águeda, and Oliveira de Azeméis, Higher Education School
of North Aveiro. It is a leading R&D university, having a large number of
active research units developing programmes targeted at both the international
business community and the significant national industry, in fields as
fundamental or applied physics, chemistry, telecommunications, robotics,
bioinformatics, sea sciences, materials, design, administration and industrial
engineering. Its technological influence allows the preparation of top
researchers and best in business qualified human resources for start-ups or
established companies as Portugal Telecom, EFACEC, Nokia Siemens Networks,
Cisco Systems, Alcatel, Ericsson, Vodafone, BOSCH or NEC.
