Dear Colleague,

Within the INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON PLASTICITY 2007, Alyeska Prince
Hotel, Alaska, June 2-6, 2007, Dr. Noels and myself are organizing a
mini-symposium on:
*
*Simulation of materials submitted to large strains and large
strain-rates. Application to impact and material forming processes.

We would be delighted if you can join the mini-symposium. In
such a case, please send me an abstract with a copy to the organizer at:
khan en umbc.edu and/or symposium en neat-plasticity.com

Best regards,

L. Noels and J.P. Ponthot

PLASTICITY 2007,THE ALYESKA PRINCE HOTEL, ALASKA,
June 2-6, 2007
FIRST CIRCULAR (Dated September 30, 2006)

The 13th International Symposium on Plasticity will be held in beautiful
Alyeska Prince Hotel (the only four diamond resort in Alaska, 40 miles
south of Anchorage), from June 2 to 6, 2007. This Symposium series is
the prime forum for plasticity research dissemination as usually around
400 scientists from around the world participate in this conference. The
symposium will focus on multi-scale computational plasticity, plasticity
of emerging materials (nanocrystalline solids, thin films, biomaterials,
polymers etc.) and micro mechanics of plastic deformation and texture
evolution, including materials science aspects, metal forming, and
elastic-plastic damage mechanics. However, presentations in any area of
plasticity will be welcomed, especially experimental and materials
science studies related to plastic deformation. Thus topics of interest
include plastic and viscoplastic behaviors of single crystals and
polycrystalline metals, nanocrystalline metals, thin films,
biomaterials, ceramics, ice, rocks and soils, composite materials and
polymers, as well as plasticity aspects of damage, failure and fracture
mechanics. Symposium presentations must be original unpublished
research related to experimental, numerical or theoretical analyses of
the inelastic behavior of solids subjected to quasi-static, dynamic or
cyclic thermo-mechanical loading.

A three-page summary/compact paper will be printed in a CD proceedings
and available at the symposium for quick dissemination of your research.
The optional full-length papers are published in the International
Journal of Plasticity after the standard peer review process and
acceptance, for archival reference. The journal has the highest impact

factor among all solid mechanics journals in 2002, 2004 & 2005. Please
see the internet for the journal details at:

www.elsevier.com/locate/ijplas/

The full-length papers should be submitted for publication consideration
anytime from six months before to six months after the symposium. We
expect this symposium to be as outstanding, both technically and
socially, as its predecessors, including the one in Whistler (July
2000), Aruba (Jan. 2002), Quebec City (July 2003), Kauai (January 2005)
and Halifax (July 2006).

THE LOCATION AND HOTEL

The symposium will be held at the only four diamond resort in Alaska,
The Prince Alyeska Hotel. See details at:
http://www.alyeskaresort.com/

Anchorage airport has direct flights from major US, Canadian, Asian and
European cities, and connections through Seattle. A block of rooms has
been set aside at a very
special rate (king/double at $ 160 for moderate rooms, $ 170 for deluxe
rooms, and $180 for summit rooms, per night, plus 12%tax and a resort
service fee of $10 per day; the resort fee provides free wireless
internet service in the lobby, a shuttle to local restaurants, pool &
fitness center access, in-room premium coffee and incoming faxes), even
for this peak season; the regular rate is more than double of the
symposium rate. More information will be provided for reservation after
we receive your acceptance.
Alaska in general, and area around Alyeska resort in particular, is
famous for its unspoiled natural beauty; come and watch huge chunks of
glaciers breaking and falling in the ocean (an incredible sound and
sight) .

PRESENTATIONS AND REGISTRATION FEE

The presentations will include key-note invited lectures and invited
presentations in each of four or five parallel sessions. The invited
key-note lecture of 40 minutes duration is expected to give an overview
of the subject with almost 20 minutes being devoted to the results of
other researchers. Invited presentations will be allotted 20 minutes.
All presentations, including invited lectures, must contain a
significant amount of unpublished results. A session of two hours will
normally include one lecture and four invited talks. Computer projectors
will be available for your presentation.

A registration form for registration fees and mailing information will
be sent later. Please send a line indicating your interest as soon as
possible, preferably by return e-mail to khan en umbc.edu and
symposium en neat-plasticity.com.

Kindly follow the deadlines given below.
