Dear colleague,

The 30th edition of CILAMCE - Iberian Latin American Congress on
Computational Methods in Engineering will be held in the city of
Armação de Búzios, RJ, Brazil, 08-11 November 2009.

We are organizing the mini-symposium "Advanced Materials",
which welcomes contributions on the mathematical modeling of
structures made of advanced materials, such as polymers, ceramics,
light metallic alloys, electroactive, magneto-rheological materials,
FGMs and composites in general, and, not least, biological tissues.
New computational mechanics developments, modeling at the micro and
nanostructure levels, inclusion of nonlocal effects, multiscale and
multiphysics implementations are some of the themes to be addressed.

We welcome you, as a well-known researcher on this field, to
contribute to the sucess of the mini-symposium by
submiting related abstracts through the conference webpage
http://eventos.nacad.ufrj.br/.
Please feel free to forward this message to others who might be
interested in the subject.

The deadline for abstract submission is 31 July 2009.

With best regards,

Deane Roehl (droehl en puc-rio.br)
Ney Dumont(dumont en puc-rio.br)

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit a contribution to the
"High Performance Computing on Graphics Hardware - GPGPU" mini-symposium
that we are organizing within the 30th CILAMCE 2009 [1].

After a long period of steady growth, desktop commodity computer
architecture has reached its ceiling on computing performance. Further
progress is no longer enabled by growth in core clock rates, but by growth
in parallelism. Many articles have been presented at the CILAMCE 2008 on the
use of multi-cored computing applied to a variety of problems. Furthermore,
there is a growing trend toward parallel computation on the recently created
general-purpose graphics hardware (GPGPU). Due to its architecture, the GPU
is specially well-suited to address problems that can be expressed as data-
parallel computations with high arithmetic intensity (the ratio of
arithmetic operations to memory operations). Recent research works have
shown that parallel numerical calculations may be very efficiently
implemented in GPUs. The idea of the present mini-symposium is to gather
researchers working on HPC tasks using GPGPU systems, aiming to discuss the
state of the art issues, exchange experiences and solutions for existing
implementation strategies and problems.

Abstract submission is accepted until July, 31st [2].
