A PhD position is available at the Laboratory of Computational Methods
and Numerical Analysis (LaCàN), Universitat Politècnica de
Catalunya-BarcelonaTech in Barcelona, Spain.
The project is funded by the European Union through the Marie Curie
CIG Action and by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
The PhD fellowship covers the full tuition, a monthly stipend and
The project aims at studying numerical methods for coupling
heterogeneous multiphysics problems described by partial differential
equations. These problems arise in many practical applications, for
example, whenever different phenomena have to be taken into account in
two or more subregions of the computational domain (fluid-porous
media, fluid-structure, ...) or when, for the description and
simulation of complex physical phenomena, combinations of hierarchical
mathematical models are set up with the aim of reducing the
computational complexity. The project focuses on the development,
analysis and implementation of effective numerical methods for the
simulation of such complex multiphysics problem.
Applicants should hold a master degree in Mathematics, Physics,
Engineering or a related field. Successful candidates should have a
solid background in partial differential equations, a good knowledge
of the finite elements method and some experience in computer
Deadline for application: review will begin immediately until the
position is filled.

(transcripts), the names of up to three referees and a short statement
of purpose (max one page).
