The Simulation and Modeling Group at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales of the Technical University of Madrid has opened a research position for a PhD student. For it, the group is searching for enthusiastic candidates to complete a PhD during, at most, four years in the Mechanical Engineering department of this school.
The selected candidate will join a dynamic group of researchers and work on a competitively funded project that investigates numerical methods for topology optimization in solid mechanics.

Successful candidates must possess:
• An excellent academic record, including a completed Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in
Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related areas (Aerospace, Civil, Naval,
etc.),
• Excellent analytical abilities, self-motivated and the ability to work independently,
• Good programming skills in C, C++, or Python,
• Knowledge of numerical methods, PDEs,
• Medium-to-high knowledge of the English language,
• Passion for study, analysis, simulation.

In addition, the following would be desirable:
• Knowledge on nonlinear continuum mechanics,
• Ability to work in a research team,
• Experience with finite elements or similar analysis techniques.

The position will include, in addition to the salary and medical insurance, a paid secondment
in an international research center or university, as well as attendance to national/international
conferences.
