Abstract

Natural- or man- made materials of cylindrical anisotropy or polar orthotropy
are of considerable interest in several areas of technology. Some static problems are
amenable to exact analytical solutions when dealing with polarly orthotropic plates or
slabs. On the other hand, when analyzing their transverse vibrations, some important,
practical problems do not lead themselves to straightforward analytical solutions and it
turns out to be more convenient to make use of an approximate treatment like in the present
case where the fundamental frequency of simply supported and clamped plates carrying an
eccentrically located mass is determined.
