Abstract

Large-scale wood drying is a process that demands significant amounts of energy and requires long periods of time. Improving these aspects presents a major challenge for this industry sector. Drying using environmentally friendly and relatively low-cost equipment represents a great alternative, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises. This study addresses the analysis, using computational tools (CFD), of a solar radiation wood drying system located in the city of Tacuarembó (Uruguay). The objective is to analyze energy transfer and moisture transport within the equipment, study different operating conditions, and evaluate potential improvements to the system.
