In composite cementitious materials reinforced with short fibers, manufacturing processes impart inherent characteristics. Recent studies have explored hemp as reinforcement; its fibers are about 50 microns in diameter. This work proposes a methodology to measure hemp fibers dispersed in a cementitious matrix using optical microscopy. The approach identifies the number, cross-sectional area, and location of pre-dyed fibers within small beam specimens. Data are statistically processed to estimate fiber quantity, dispersion, and correlation length, parameters useful for generating stochastic fields representing fiber distribution. Results are reported for 40×40×160 mm mortar beams reinforced with combed hemp fibers.
