Abstract

This report presents the analysis of plastic injection for three distinct pressure curves, utilizing the identical mold and configuration in each instance. The objective is to conduct a comparative analysis of these curves through the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of multiphase flows, specifically air and plastic. The data employed for comparison include the filling percentage, the quantity of material wasted, the filling time, the number of pieces produced per minute, and the cost per piece. The objective of this study is to present a methodology for selecting a suitable process curve that meets the user's desired specifications, which are typically related to either higher productivity or lower cost. To perform these simulations, the graphical interface SimFlow is employed, which executes the calculations with the OpenFoam software. Additionally, as these calculations are extensive in terms of computational time, we proceed to test the simulation method by symmetry to ascertain whether its results are analogous to those of the simulations with the complete mold.
