Code of Ethics

Ethics Code for Mecánica Computacional conference proceedings

As the official conference proceedings of the Asociación Argentina de Mecánica Computacional (AMCA), Mecánica Computacional (ISSN 2591-3522) is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical behavior throughout the publication process.

By adhering to this ethics code, Mecánica Computacional aims to foster an academic environment built on trust, integrity, and respect for intellectual property, while ensuring that all research is conducted and published responsibly.

We expect all parties involved in the publishing process—editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher—to comply with the following ethical standards:

1. Authorship and Contributorship Policy

Authors, editors, and reviewers work together to publish original results with the best standards of presentation, originality, and ethics in research.

Authors

  • Authorship credit is based on substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work, data analysis, interpretation, or drafting the work. All authors must approve the final version of the paper and agree to be accountable for the content.
  • All contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately (e.g., technical support, funding sources, etc.).
  • Any disputes on authorship will be addressed in accordance with the COPE guidelines.
  • Authors accept to adhere to the following guidelines on author responsibilities:
    • Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that they submit original work, and if they have used the work or words of others, they must appropriately cite or quote them. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.
    • Data Accuracy: Authors must provide accurate and complete data in their research. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unacceptable. Data manipulation or fabrication is a serious violation of ethical standards.
    • Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced their work.
    • Authorship: Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All contributors who have made substantial contributions should be listed as co-authors, and others who have participated should be acknowledged.
    • Multiple Submissions: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals constitutes unethical publishing behavior. This rule applies for full paper submissions.

Editors and publishers

  • Editorial Independence: Editors have full authority over the editorial content of the journal and the timing of publication of that content. Decisions to publish are based solely on the work's academic merit, originality, and relevance to the scope of Mecánica Computacional.
  • Confidentiality: Editors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are treated with confidentiality. No information about a submitted manuscript shall be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, and other editorial staff, as necessary.
  • Fair Review Process: Editors must ensure that all submitted manuscripts are reviewed based on intellectual content, without regard to the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, nationality, or political philosophy.
  • Conflict of Interest: Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest or other relationships that could influence their impartiality. The journal will manage any identified conflicts of interest transparently.
  • Ethical Investigations: Editors will take responsive measures when ethical concerns are raised with regards to a submitted or published manuscript. Editors, in coordination with the publisher, will investigate any potential misconduct (e.g., plagiarism, data fabrication, authorship disputes) and take appropriate action, including retraction or correction if necessary.
  • Publication Decisions: The publisher, in collaboration with the editorial board, ensures that the journal’s policies are followed, promoting integrity and transparency in all aspects of the publishing process.

Responsibilities of the Reviewers

  • Peer Review Integrity: Reviewers assist the editorial decision-making process and help authors improve their work. They must provide objective and constructive reviews, free from personal bias or criticism.
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat manuscripts received for review as confidential documents and not share or discuss them with others, except as authorized by the editor.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest that might influence their objectivity and recuse themselves from reviewing manuscripts where appropriate.
  • Timeliness: Reviewers should complete their reviews promptly within the established deadlines to support timely publication. They must notify the editor if they are unable to meet the deadline or feel unqualified to review the manuscript.
  • Originality: Reviewers are encouraged to report any potential ethical concerns, including suspected plagiarism, duplication of work, or unethical research practices.

2. Handling Complaints and Appeals

  • Authors, reviewers, and participants may submit formal complaints regarding editorial decisions or peer review processes.
  • Appeals on rejected submissions will be reviewed by a separate, independent committee, and decisions made will be final.
  • Complaints related to unethical behavior, plagiarism, or academic misconduct will be handled in accordance with established procedures and may result in retraction of the paper or exclusion from future conferences.

3. Conflicts of Interest / Competing Interests

  • Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their research.
  • Reviewers and editors should not review papers where they have conflicts of interest (e.g., personal relationships, financial stakes).
  • Failure to disclose conflicts of interest may result in paper rejection or post-publication correction.

4. Data Sharing and Reproducibility

  • Authors are encouraged to make raw data, software, and methods publicly available for replication and further study.
  • Authors should deposit data in open-access repositories where feasible and include information on how others can access the data.
  • The conference encourages authors to adhere to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) for data sharing.

5. Ethical Oversight

  • All research presented must adhere to ethical guidelines appropriate to the field.
  • Authors are required to provide evidence of ethical review approval for research involving human or animal subjects.
  • The conference reserves the right to reject papers where ethical concerns are identified.
  • The publisher will work in partnership with the editors to investigate and address any ethical concerns that arise during the review or post-publication process.

6. Intellectual Property

  • Authors retain the copyright of their work but grant the conference proceedings a non-exclusive license to publish the work. Mecánica Computacional grants the authors the right to use the contributions of editors and reviewers as a part of their work being not credited due to the single blind peer-review process.
  • Authors must ensure that their submissions do not violate intellectual property laws (e.g., unauthorized use of copyrighted material, plagiarism).
  • Any allegations of plagiarism will be investigated, and if substantiated, will lead to paper retraction.

7. Post-publication Discussions and Corrections

  • The publisher will ensure that all published work is preserved and available in a reliable and accessible form and is open to the community regarding concerns about the published contents. The way to express these concerns is via direct contact with the publisher.
  • Authors may request corrections to their published work if errors are discovered post-publication. The conference will issue corrected versions of the work or retractions if necessary.
