A relevant alternative for renewable energy generation is the potential of waves in marine environments, for example, through buoy-type floating elements. This paper studies the dynamics of a buoy proposed as a support for a pendulum electric generator, with the aim of establishing the displacement regime to be considered for the design and analysis of the device. To this end, two models will be generated, the first based on shallow water equations capable of characterizing wave amplitude and period, and the second to study the fluid-structure interaction problem of floating body motion in a numerical wave channel, in both cases using free software. The models will be validated and then applied to the study of the pendulum generator.
