Research Misconduct

Process for identifying and dealing allegations of research misconduct

  1. An e-mail is sent to the Editor-in-Chief regarding the document about which misconduct is alleged, attaching supporting documentation. 
  2. The complaint is referred to the editorial executive committee.
  3. The executive committee analyzes the submission and, if necessary, designates an ad-hoc committee to evaluate the case, including evidentiary documentation from both sides.
  4. The committee makes an unappealable decision on the particular misconduct complained of, supported by an opinion. Decisions include,
    1. Dismissing the complaint
    2. Requesting corrections from the authors of the questioned manuscript in order to conform to the journal's quality standards. 
    3. Withdraw the paper from the journal, stating the reasons for withdrawal.
    4. Withdraw the paper from the journal, stating the reasons for withdrawal, and exclude the authors from future conferences.
  5. Allegations of misconduct may be presented for any manuscript already published in Computational Mechanics and will be resolved within 180 days.
  6. The opinions issued by the executive committee are private to the parties involved, maintaining the due confidentiality during the process.
