Seismic performance, Zone 0, building without seismic designAbstract
The objective of this study is to assess the seismic performance of a building designed without seismic provisions. A seven-story reinforced concrete building with an additional two-story section, located in Seismic Zone 0, was selected. The "capacity spectrum" method was used, where a nonlinear static incremental analysis (Pushover) was performed, yielding a shear force vs. floor displacement curve, which was compared to the demand (design spectrum). Since Zone 0 in Argentina does not have a design spectrum, the shape of the Zone 1 spectrum and different PGAs were used to estimate them, obtaining a performance point for each spectrum. The structural analysis was conducted using SeismoStruct. For the concrete, the constant confinement nonlinear model proposed by Madas and Mander was used. A bilinear steel model was used for the reinforcement. The elements were modeled as frame elements with distributed inelasticity. The results present the accelerations and displacements that this building, designed without seismic provisions, can resist.
